World Malaria Map

Malaria is a serious, potentially life threatening tropical disease typically occurring  several days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. It is widespread throughout the world. There are several subtypes of Malaria but some becoming rapidly fatal in humans within a few hours. Sadly there is no current Malaria vaccination but there are medications which can help treat the parasite causing Malaria. Malaria can also rarely be spread through blood transfusions.

Malaria typically causes high fever, sweats and chills, aches and pains, diarrhoea/ vomiting but can also cause other symptoms.

Malaria Prevention

There are a variety of different medications which can help prevent and treat Malaria depending on the type of trips, length of vacations, previous history, side effects and age. Apart from trying to avoid mosquito bites by covering up, using insect repellants, insect sprays, using nets and screens, medications are recommended for high risk travel. Back to Top
